Our story

A field in Provence, shared across the ocean.

Terre de Lavande connects people in America with a lavender field on the Valensole plateau, in the heart of Provence.

The people behind Terre de Lavande

Why we started this.

Most people only meet lavender as a scent in a bottle. We wanted to give them the field itself: a plant with a name, a place on the plateau, and a year of news from the people who grow it. Every adoption supports the farm directly, and every box carries a little of its season home.

Our connection to Provence

The plateau that turns violet.

The Valensole plateau sits high in Haute-Provence, between the Alps and the sea. Its dry, stony soil and long, bright summers suit lavender well, and for generations families here have grown it in long, rounded rows.

Every summer the plateau turns violet for a few weeks — the landscape most people picture when they think of Provence. It is quiet, agricultural and very much a working place. That is the field we want you to know.

The farm and its lavender

A year in the rows.

Lavender is a perennial: the same plants flower summer after summer. Their year follows the same rhythm — and your adoption follows it with them.

  1. Winter

The plants are pruned back into rounded cushions and the field rests. Roots grow; little else shows.

  2. Spring

New silver-green shoots. The rows are weeded and watched as the flower stems start to rise.

  3. Early summer

The rows turn violet and the bees arrive. The farmer watches the flowers to choose the moment to cut.

  4. July

Harvest. The stems are cut, and part of them is distilled into essential oil or hung up to dry.

What your adoption supports

One year, one plant, one field.

An adoption is a one-year experience of a lavender plant on the farm — simple to explain, and honest about what it is.

A year with one plant

Your adoption follows a plant — or a plot or row — through one full season, with its own name and certificate.

Boxes from its field

Oil, soap, dried lavender and seasonal pieces made from the farm’s lavender, shipped free to the USA.

A farm that keeps growing

Adoptions are designed to give the farm income spread through the year, not only at harvest time.

A personal connection

Your plant, in your inbox.

You give your lavender a name and receive its certificate. Then the field writes back: when the rows wake up in spring, when the first purple appears, on harvest morning. Photographs, short letters, and the occasional surprise.

  • Name your plant and get its certificate
  • Seasonal letters and photographs
  • Boxes made from its field, all year

The first purple, and a visit from the bees

Dear Sarah, Petit Soleil was the first in Row 7 to turn purple this week — a few days ahead of its neighbours, which did not go unnoticed. The bees found it before we did. If the wind stays quiet, the cutting starts soon. We’ll send you photos from that morning; we wish we could send the smell.
